No.42 – CAPE BLEND

With our belief to always look ahead and carry irony by our sides, we had to look to the past to reveal the future.

This Cape Blend celebrates the heritage and origins of Pinotage and its parent cultivars Pinot Noir and Cinsault.

Fruit from terroir-specific vineyards, which complements the cultivars, was handpicked to amalgamate into a beautifully complex and well-structured wine.

Our journey starts with a tip of the hat to the original Cape Rebels, where episodes of chance, fortune, and unwavering resolve have become the stuff of legends…

In 1925, the audacious decision to cross Pinot Noir with Cinsault, presented the world with a vibrant new cultivar with a decidedly uncertain future. Since its first commercial-scale production in 1959, a league of visionary winemakers has carved a bold path for Pinotage, transforming it into South Africa’s unrivalled and commercially prosperous gem. Through adversity, these winemaking rebels prevailed, securing Pinotage’s rightful place on the global stage.

OLD BUSH VINE WOODED CHENIN BLANC

Our Old Bush Vine Chenin blanc symbolises the spiritual origin of Orpheus and the Raven.

The first 983 bottles created in 2015 originated from this single vineyard planted in 1973. With our 2023 vintage, we celebrate the half-centenary of this remarkable site.

The wine continues the original vision to never look back.

SWANSONG

Experience the transformation from demise to rebirth: where vineyards once faced their final curtain call, what emerges now is a narrative of preservation and rejuvenation.

Instead of bidding farewell to the last verse, we’re crafting a symphony of revival, breathing new life into these vineyards for generations to come.

EYE OF THE TIGER – LE BÉTON CINSAULT

The spirit of ancient legends comes alive with Eye of the Tiger, a bold Cinsault that embodies the perfect blend of strength and grace. Produced in limited quantities and aged in concrete eggs, this unique wine is finished with the touch of tiger’s eye, telling a story of resilience and artistry.

The label captures a mesmerizing scene: Orpheus, clad in ancient Roman battle attire, engages in a dance fight with a prancing tiger, all while playing a Gibson Les Paul gold top guitar. This striking image symbolizes the harmony between power and finesse, reflecting the dance of flavours in every bottle.

CONSPIRACY OF RAVENS –LE BÉTON PINOT NOIR

Conspiracy of Ravens whispers tales of mystery and intrigue. Aged in concrete eggs, this wine captures the essence of elegance and complexity, weaving a narrative as rich and layered as its flavours.

The label tells a twisted story: three ravens bound together by a gold thread —one around the eyes, one around the ears, and one around the beak—echoing the legend of see no evil, hear no evil, and say no evil. Hidden on each side, two additional ravens pull at the same golden thread, adding to the intrigue and their silent conspiracy.
